Why are my Children So Sick? Mold Exposure?

Mold & Children

Mold can have disastrous impact on the most vulnerable among us. Studies are indicating that long-term exposure to even moderate levels of mold in our infancy and youth can have a lifetime impact on us.

Children and Senior Citizens are especially prone to the impact of mold and mycotoxin exposure.

When we think about the world of a child we need to think about where they spend most of their waking time. Children explore the world at floor level as compared to adults who spend 80 to 90% of their time four to six feet off the floor.

The child’s exposure to dusts, dander bacterias and molds are very high at floor level.

Consider that children take nearly four times the breaths per minute than the average adult.

  • Newborns average 44 breaths per minute
  • Infants average 20 to 40 breaths per minute
  • Pre-school children average 20 to 30 breaths per minute
  • Adults average 12 to 20 breaths per minute
  • Adults during strenuous exercise average 35 to 40 breaths per minute.

On the floor children are hyper exposed to chemical compounds in the forms of paint, varnishes, cleaning products, dust mites, pesticides and a multitude of other pollutants that a adults would rarely come into contact with on a daily basis.

But wait a minute before you rush off to clean your floor! Take this quiz and ask yourself: IS THIS YOUR CHILD?

Does your child:

  • Have dark circles under their eyes?
  • Get frequent nose bleeds?
  • Have consistent or cyclical (twice a month to consistent) allergic type reactions?
  • “Get well” when they are away from home for a few hours?
  • Regularly return home from school or day care sick or complaining of a headache?
  • Have a diagnosis as a slow learner or behavior problem?
  • Have strong cravings for certain scents, odors or foods?
