Those at greatest risk:

Babies and children
Elderly people
Persons with compromised immune systems. (Chemotherapy, lung and heart disease and those on anti-inflammatory medicines like prednisone)
Seniors and others with respiratory conditions, allergies and asthma
In East Tennessee several molds are capable of producing toxins (mycotoxins) that can be rapidly absorbed into the instestines, lungs and skin of our aging friends. They are:

Stachybotrys (aka Black Mold)
Aspergillius
Pennicilium
Cladsporium
Chanthrome
The short and long-term consequences to these toxins are largely known and still under scrutiny by environmental physicians and researchers. Chemicals found in toxic mold spores have known severe health impacts on senior citizens and those with the above risk factors.

Short term symptoms of senior citizen mold exposure:

Nose and sinus congestion
Dry hacking cough
Chest tightness
Trouble breathing
Asthma or worsening asthma symptoms
Nosebleeds
Respiratory infections
Headache
Eye and skin irritation
Higher, more toxic levels of exposure long term can produce devastating consequences such as:

Bob at Volunteer Inspections visits the mold lab and enjoys a selfie with weird piece of equipment.

Bob Byrne visits Assured Bio and gets a photo with a piece of their mold equipment.

Hyper sensitivity – pulmonary fibrosis
Lung bleeding (hemosiderosis)
Stomach and or cardiac conditions
Neurotoxicity
Endocrine disorders
Cancer

If your in doubt about why your ill its easy to find out if mold in your home is impacting your health.

I want to know if it will cost to have my parents home checked for mold. They are both very ill and when I stay with them I feel horrible in their house.

Depending on a number of factors: Area of the Country, Square Footage of the home, type of foundation and the type of detail you want included in the inspection. In East Tennessee a typical 3 bedroom 2 bath home on a crawl space costs just under $ 500.00 with inspection, sampling of air and laboratory analysis.
